About the Government Council

The seven members of the Government Council are elected by the people every four years.

The multi-member structure of the Government Council is its defining aspect: The members of the Government Council make all decisions through a majority vote. These decisions are generally publicly accessible.

The Government Council is led by its Chair and the Governor is responsible for the appointment and delegation of duties to deputies.

The Head Clerk and his or her deputy plan, organize, guide and support the Government Council's work.
