Regional Police Department

About us

Our Regional Police Department, together with the Riot Police, is the frontline police force that promptly responds to crimes, accidents, and other incidents, and conducts investigations.

The Regional Police Department does background checks, provides transportation services and police assistance. In addition to other work, the background checks and transport service handles the transportation of prisoners. The police security assistants ensure peace, order, and security.

Michael Metzger, Head of the Regional Police Department

'We want to maintain a strong connection with the community by networking and being accessible to citizens. Our aim is to ensure safety through our presence, preventative measures, and professional investigative work. It is crucial for us to always act with moderation.'

Police stations

Our police officers in the municipalities investigate crimes, take complaints and work in tandem with the riot police. To keep frontline officers available for emergencies, they address time-consuming cases like missing persons, workplace accidents, trick thefts and environmental pollution. They keep an eye on school routes and enforce the littering ban.

They advise citizens on how to prevent burglaries. They also frequently patrol their region on foot, interacting with the local community and municipal authorities.

Background Check and Transport Service

For transporting prisoners, officers of the Background Check and Transport Service work closely with the Zug Prison Service, the Bostadel Prison, the Office for Migration, and the Public Prosecutor's Office of the canton of Zug.

The detention center of the Background Check and Transport Service coordinates the arrests and transfer of prisoners to the appropriate authorities in consultation with the relevant departments. The officers of the Background Check and Transport Service are also involved in escorted and unescorted deportations and repatriations.

This service also prepares regular and simplified immigration reports, and does general background checks.

Police Assistance Service

Our police security assistants patrol public spaces and squares at different times of the day and night. They ensure peace, order and security. At these hotspots, they encounter a wide variety of situations that call for tactical skill and instinct, particularly when checking people. We carry out many operations on behalf of municipalities or other partners with whom we work closely.

Searching for wanted persons, vehicles and objects requires vigilance. Our police security assistants are also responsible for enforcing fines for petty offences in stationary traffic. They also deliver fine notices personally. Short-term work, assignments and supporting other Zug police services complement this interesting career path.
