The requirements for foodstuffs and consumer products are governed by Swiss food legislation. Within the meaning of food legislation, consumer products are products that come into contact with the human body or with food, such as cosmetics, shower and bath water, tableware, and food packaging.
The legislation requires the monitoring of the entire supply chain, from production and transportation to product processing, trade, and ultimately the consumer.
The requirements for chemicals are regulated by chemical legislation, while those for radon are governed by radiation protection law.
Responsibility for enforcing the aforementioned legislation lies with the cantons.
